Set Them Free

Okay first things first, Team Canada: Women just won GOLD in hockey tonight at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics... was there ever any doubt?  WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!  Obviously, we fuckin' rock!

Okay now onto what I really wanted to talk about.  I'm sure everyone has now heard about the Killer Whale in SeaWorld that has killed a 40 year old female trainer.  Apparently this particular whale is very hard to train and has even killed someone before this incident.  Well people, all I have to say is what the hell did you expect?  It's a freakin' KILLER WHALE, not a little puppy dog.  The whale weighs 11,000 pounds and is 22 feet long.  Why do people continue to think that these animals belong in tanks and should preform childish and stupid tricks for people?  It's ridiculous!

I am and have always been a lover of whales.  I have been reading about them and studying them since I was about 5 years old.  I don't plan on working with them in my life, I just find them so interesting and so beautiful.  I even had a Killer Whale mural painted on my bedroom whale when I was a kid.  I am so sick and tired of seeing these amazing animals treated like circus acts.

Oh, and I also found out that the tank that housed the whale was only 35 feet deep!  Yeah, that is no where near deep enough for a 22 foot long whale.  Why, WHY do people feel the need to go into the wild and capture a giant animal, only to put it into a tank the that would be the equivalent to a bathtub to a person?  People are saying that since this whale cannot be trained and it has killed 2 people that it should be set back into the wild.  NO SHIT!  However, SeaWorld is apparently run by money hungry assholes.  They are wanting to keep the whale because if it successfully breeds with one of their female Killer Whales, the baby could be worth upwards of $10 million!  Hmmm, I guess human life means nothing to these people...

Anyways, I just hope that they release the whale into the wild, along with all of the other captive whales all over the world.  That won't happen though.  Some people just cannot put anything but money ahead of anything else.  It's really, really sad.

Eff...

I hate Dentists.

That's right, I hate them.  I hate everything to do with them.  As Kramer from Seinfeld would say, I'm a "rabid anti-dentite!"  I have had a fear of Dentists for as long as I can remember.  I just HATE that scraping noise that is made when they have that pick and are taking the plaque off or whatever they are doing.  It actually makes me feel nauseous.  The worst part is when the actual Dentist comes in and starts stabbing your molars to see if you have cavities.  Not only does it hurt, but the fear of him saying 'oh, you have a cavity' is paralyzing.  Well thankfully I didn't have any cavities (I've only had 2 from when I was about 12 years old), but I got the worst news of all.

I have to get my wisdom teeth out.  ALL 4 OF THEM!  F U Dentists!  I mean, they are coming in but they don't even hurt, so what's the problem?  I don't think I should have to get them removed unless they are causing severe pain and I can't even feel a thing right now.  Ugh I am so pissed off, not to mention terrified.  I have to go to Winnipeg next Tuesday to have a consultation with an oral surgeon.  He is going to x-ray my mouth and then make an appointment to get the teeth removed.  What the hell, why did God gives us wisdom teeth anyway if you are just going to have to have them removed and then have extreme pain afterwards?  I asked both my sisters about it because they recently had theirs removed, and Brittany-Ann said it hurt her for a few days, but Amanda-Dawn said that is was the worst pain she has ever felt in her entire life, even worse than when she broke her arm!  WHAT THE HELL!!

Jeff said I am being a wussy, but I am really scared.  I have never had surgery before, what if I go under and then I never wake up?  Oh man I am really scared.  I mean, everyone I know who has had their wisdom teeth out has turned out perfectly fine, but what if I am the one person who gets all screwed up?  :(

Gearing Up For A Busy Weekend

Happy Friday all!

This is going to be a pretty busy weekend for us.  Tonight we are going to Festival du Voyageur.  It's Winnipeg's big winter festival, they have it every year.  It's full of different booths, live music, live acts, huge ice carvings, and fun winter activities.  I hope this year is better than last years festival though.  Last year it was about -30°C and I had a HUGE allergic reaction to the cold due to my stupid Cold Urticaria.  I ended up taking some really strong allergy pills that made me really REALLY hyper for about an hour, and then I started to go down really fast and I almost fainted... twice.  Jeff had to practically carry me to the car and I was completely covered in hives except for my face.  It was the worst reaction I have ever had.  This year should be a bit better though.  I'm wearing my long john's and bringing Benadryl with me, so I'm all set!  Plus, it's only going to be around -10°C, so as long as I am not rolling around in the snow and I only spend about 10-15 minutes outside in between the warm booths, I should be okay.  Hopefully!

Tomorrow we are going back into Winnipeg to do some grocery shopping.  We are also going out for dinner for Valentine's Day.  I know, Valentine's Day is on Sunday, but we are not going back into the city for a third day in a row.  It's a 1.5 hour drive to get there, and that is just too much.  On Sunday I think we are just going to make a romantic dinner at home.  I think tomorrow we are going to The Olive Garden for dinner.  I don't really like it but Jeff loves it so I let him choose this time seeing as how I chose Red Lobster for our anniversary dinner a few weeks ago.  I'll just have a salad or something.

I am also signing up for my next course this weekend and I am so excited for it!  I was going to take Business Website Development but they only teach you HTML (which I already know) and I basically know CSS too so it would be a waste of money to take that course.  I have decided to take Business Law instead.  I am really excited about it because it is basically all reading and writing essays and papers and stuff and I love doing that.  My last course, Bookkeeping and Accounting, was okay but it was all math and I HATE math.  This one should be more to my liking.  I'm just not to keen on the time period for it.  It starts on March 1st, and ends on August 31st!  That is 6 MONTHS!  It's because I'm taking it through distance education though.  If I were to live closer to the school and take it there it would only be 2 months.  I should have it done before 6 months though and you can take the exam whenever you feel like it.  I'm aiming to be done before July 1st.

Well I have to go get ready to go to the Festival.  Bye!

Elliptical and Anniversary

Hello all.  I'm really bored so I decided that it would be a good time to write a blog post.

We got our elliptical not last weekend but the weekend before.  It's a Body Break Dual Action Programmable Elliptical Trainer with 24 set programs on it and automatic resistance.  I am in love with it, but there is a story that came with it haha.  When we bought it in Winnipeg (which is an hour and half away), we brought it home and it took Jeff about 2 hours to put it all together.  We plugged it in too see if everything is okay, and that's when I realized that we have the worst luck out of any consumer in the history of buying things.  Of course it didn't work.  The screen kept flashing an "E1" error message. I was so upset.  Seriously, nearly everything we buy doesn't work when we get it home:  My bike, our TV, karaoke machine, humidifier... ugh!  Since it was a Saturday, we couldn't call the manufacturer to get them to send whatever part we needed to fix it until Monday.  Oh and the troubleshooting part of the manual was written in direct Chinese-to-English, so it made absolutely no sense whatsoever.  We refused to take it back because it takes so long to get to Winnipeg and that is waste of gas and that would cost us even MORE money.  It has a one year warranty, so the company had to fix it for us.  So Jeff called on Monday and they said they would send us a new motor with no questions asked and it would be here in 3-5 business days.  Then when Jeff came home he decided to check out the motor we had to see exactly what was wrong with it.  After taking it all apart, he realized that one of the wires inside was stuck.  He moved it and YAY the thing started working!  So now we have a working elliptical AND a new motor in case this one breaks for real.  What an ordeal!

So I try to run at least 5 km a day on it.  I thought it would be really hard at first but actually it's really easy.  I'm really happy that Jeff bought it, I really want to get back into shape.

Our 3 year anniversary was yesterday.  Wow, I can't believe it's been 3 years already.  I never thought I'd find someone who I'd be with for this long.  I'm so happy though, and I hope that we are together forever, I really do.  The elliptical was our anniversary present and Jeff also bought me some flowers.  I made Chicken Carbonara Pasta for our anniversary dinner and it was actually really REALLY good.

Well, that's all for now I guess!

It's Warming Up!

Hokey smokes, it's -5°C!  In Manitoba!  IN JANUARY!  I know this may seem cold to some of you people, but that is freakin' warm for this time of year out here.  It was just -24°C a few days ago!  That's not even the best part though, it's actually going up to +2°C this weekend!  It's like spring is making it's early arrival or something.  I shouldn't get too excited though.  It's probably going to get colder again.  Damn weather!

We are getting our brand spanking new elliptical this Saturday.  I am beyond excited.  Time to get into shape!  The one we are getting is by Body Break I think.  You know, "Body Break: With Hal Johnson and Joanne McCloud!" haha.  It's supposed to be a really good brand, so I hope it works out for us.  We are getting it from Wal-Mart because they are having a sale right now.  I think the sale price is $367.99.  That's actually a pretty good deal.  We of course decided against buying at Canadian Tire because, and I am not even exaggerating one little bit here, EVERY single thing we have bought at Canadian Tire has broke within days of purchase.  Every single thing.  A TV, my bike, a humidifier... the list goes on.  Their customer service is beyond crappy.  The place is just a piece of garbage.  It's an embarrassment to even have Canada's name in it's title.  Honestly.

Well I have to go and see if anyone is stealing my laundry out of the dryer.  I hate this apartment building.

Back In Manitoburrrr

Well I'm back in Manitoba.  We came back from Ontario on Sunday, January 3rd.  We got to the airport and thought we might not make it home though!  There was an apparent terrorist attempt on a flight on Christmas Day and this caused any flights going out of Canada to have HUGE lineups and delays because of higher security.  We were freaking out when we got there because our flight was supposed to leave in an hour and the lines were so long that there was absolutely no way we would get out of there on time.  Thank God that a West Jet worker was walking around yelling "Winnipeg, 8:15am!"  We went to her and she directed us to the front of a line.  We made it!

The trip home was really nice.  It was good to see everyone again, even though I was kind of glad to be coming back to Manitoba.  Not that I wanted to leave my family, but just because I hate living out of suitcases and I like living on my own because I get to have all my own things where I want to have them and it's not so hectic and it's quiet.  I would love to live near my family, but I would have to have my own place lol.  Dixie and Sampras are pretty glad to be home too, they can run around here and not worry about other dogs or cats being in their way.  Sampras can sprawl out on the floor for the first time in 2 weeks and he loves it lol.  I do miss home though.

People in Ontario are wimps though lol.  They kept complaining and whining so much about how they hated the "cold" weather they were having.  Oh my God, it was freakin' -15°C!  Give me a break haha.  When we left here to go home, it was -48°C and when we came back here it was -27°C!  They don't know how lucky they have it!

We are getting a new elliptical not this weekend but the next.  I'm so excited!  My New Year's resolution is to get back into shape and get healthy again.  I hate being sick all the time.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Merry Christmas everyone!

I'm here in Bowmanville, Ontario for the holidays.  Jeff and I arrived here on December 19th around 9:00am.  We had to leave for the airport at 3:00am becuase it takes a couple hours to get there from Pinawa and we had to be at the airport an hour early because we have pets and checking in with them takes longer.

Oh my God the checkin experience, let me freakin' tell you about THAT!  So I went through the metal scanner and I knew that I was going to go off because I was carrying Sampras and his collar always makes it go off.  After I put him back in his carrier this big, butchy, freak security lady started to scan me with the hand held scanner.  I swear to God it must have been broken because it beeped on me in every single spot, even spots with no metal at all!  Oh it gets better... the butch lady actually made me undo my jeans in front of at least 50 people and then she proceeded to put her huge disgusting hands down my pants, with all these strangers looking at me!  She even touched my bare ass and my... lady parts!  Ugh, worst experinece of my life.  I was almost going to cry I swear.  And then after all that she made me go through, nothing was wrong of course and I was free to go.  You know, I saw a sign there that said if someone was going to search you like that they had to take you to a private room.  I should sue damn it, it was so embarassing!  At least the flight was smooth and nice.  Fucking Winnipeg Airport... UGH!

ANYWAYS, today is Christmas so I'll tell you what we got.  It'll put me in a better mood.  The big gift that I got from my parents was a JVC Everio digital camcorder.  I have been wanting one of those things for about 5 years now.  There are lots of different versions of it and mine is the High Capacity one that holds 2 SD memory cards.  We don't have a card yet though, we are getting one tomorrow.  I can't wait to use it, I'm so excited!  I also got an alarm clock, a family photo in a nice frame, a Nintendo DS game, and lots of other little things like stocking stuffers and stuff.  Jeff's parents gave him some money to buy whatever he wanted and they gave me a nice shirt and some snow pants that I desperatly needed because God damn it's cold where I live!  Overall it was a pretty awesome Christmas.  We still don't have plans for New Year's Eve though.  We are going back to Manitoba on January 3rd.

I told Chris I would put this last part in lol:  Chris and Jeff are playing Halo 3 on XBox 360 right now and Chris will not get off and let me play Scene It on XBox.  JERK!  Hahaha.

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

Christmas is in 10 days!!  More importantly though, I'm coming home to Ontario this Saturday, only 4 days away!!  I'm so excited to be going home because I miss my family and friends and if I had stayed here in Manitoba for Christmas, Jeff and I would have been pretty damn lonely.  Practically all of the people we know are spending Christmas somewhere other than here.  I can't really have Christmas without my family, what kind of Christmas would that be?  Besides, what's a Christmas without "Ashley Presents: Christmas Eve Slumber Party Ooooooooooooh Nine!"?  It's going to be great!

So what else has been happening?  Well I had to go see a dietitian because my cholesterol levels are a bit too high for my doctor's liking.  It's mostly genetic though.  My Dad has high cholesterol.  I'm really glad that I went to see the dietitian though because she wrote out a meal plan for me and it tells me exactly what I can and can't eat.  Before I wasn't too sure and I would make a bad food choice and not even realize it.  Now I can go grocery shopping and know exactly what I need.  I really just need to eat more fish (which I love, so that's not a problem at all), more bran, and less sugars.  Oh and absolutely NO cheese products, because apparently cheese raises cholesterol like no other food there is.  That's fine though, I was kind of going off cheese anyways, I don't really like it.  Jeff is also buying me an elliptical in January because staying active helps to lower cholesterol and I can't be active for half of the year because winter lasts for 6 months here and I am allergic to the cold.  Having the elliptical will be great because then I can workout indoors.  I have to go back in June for another test to see if my cholesterol has gone down.  Hopefully with my new diet and new elliptical, it will go down no problem.

Oh I also wanted to say that I got my final mark back from my Bookkeeping and Accounting course... 79.41%!  I thought I failed for sure.  I also learned that 28 people dropped out before the course was over!  It was hard, but not THAT hard.  Oh well, at least I did well.

I'm Free! For Now...

Hey guys, sorry for the long absence, I've just been so busy with school.  I had a final project that was a HUGE pain the ass.  I thought I would have to get an extension on it and everything.  Jeff gave me confidence though and I made it through it, I even got 91% on it!  I'm really happy about that.  At first my professor gave me the wrong mark and it said I got 116% percent on it.  I emailed him and was like "Um, something seems not right here..."  Damn me and honesty, he would have never noticed if I didn't say anything!  Oh well, 91% is still really good and I'm really proud of myself.  It definitely boosted my confidence level.  I took the exam last Saturday in Winnipeg at 9am.  I don't have my mark for it yet, but even if I failed, I still passed the course.  I don't think I failed though... hopefully. *fingers crossed*  So now I don't have anymore school!  Well, I am probably starting the second course in my program in February or March, but I still have a lot of free time until then.  The next course in my program is Website Development and Design and it's only 3 months long.  It should be super easy since it teaches you how to make a website using HTML and I already know how to do that.

So now all I have to do is sit around.  Oh wait... CHRISTMAS IS COMING!!  Yes folks, today is December 1st and that means Christmas season is officially here.  Well, it was here 2 weeks ago when the Toronto Santa Claus Parade was on, but Jeff wouldn't let me start celebrating Christmas until after his birthday, which was November 25th.  We went to Jennifer's Restaurant for Jeff's birthday dinner.  His birthday just happened to fall on a Wednesday and every Wednesday is all-you-can-eat pork schnitzel at Jennifer's for $9.50.  Jeff is obsessed with it.  I don't like it, I always get the shrimp dinner when we go there.  He had fun though, a bunch of our friends went with us.

Sooooo yeah, Christmas = 24 days away!  AND we fly home in 18 days!  I'm so excited!
